You’re never fully dressed without…

You’re totally down with Annie’s old-beyond-her-years wisdom that you’ve never fully dressed without a smile.

Well you sort of are.

You’re also of the opinion that you aren’t fully dressed without a heart-stoppingly beautiful pair of heels, a statement necklace and a pair of kickass shades. Not to mention a roomy yet chic tote by day and a pretty but impractically small clutch bag by night… Oh and then there are the great earrings, a few cocktail rings and a pretty scarf to wrap it all up.

Actually, on second thought, Annie was really missing the point. Let’s be honest, once you’ve got an artillery of killer shoes, bags and jewellery, a smile’s going to ruin the whole look. A fashiony scowl a la VB is much more where it’s at.

So, if v.2014 Annie of ‘You’re never fully dressed without a fashiony scowl’ fame, was on an awesome accessories shopping spree in HK, where would she be hitting up exactly? Well we’re pretty certain we’ve mapped exactly the tills that her Platinum Card would be taking a whirl through, and it looks something like this…

Charlotte Olympia
From towering platform pumps to a rainbow-hued array of flats, the brand new Charlotte Olympia boutique (and the first standalone CO store in Asia) well and truly has your toes covered. If you like your shoes with a dash of old Hollywood glamour here and touch of whimsy there, you’re probably already completely tangled in Charlotte’s web. Along with the much loved Kitty smoking slippers and the teetering Dolly pumps, you’ll find the store’s gold and glass shelves stacked with the nautical (but nice) SS’14 collection – we’re talking Breton stripes, mermaid tails and lobsters. Your feet don’t have the monopoly at Charlotte Olympia though; there are also a whole host of kitschy-cute clutches and shoppers too. Keep those peepers peeled for the 9 to 5 collection hitting the store very soon – a range of more classic shoes designed to be worn from breakfast meeting to clocking off cocktails which each come with a pair of matching stockings inside a briefcase shaped shoebox. Too fabulous for words! (Shop 221, Landmark Atrium, Central, +852 2142 9008)

Tang Tang Tang Tang
Laid out like a Utopian Hong Kong apartment, David Tang’s latest retail star, Tang Tang Tang Tang, is like a grown-up dolls’ house complete with a veritable dressing-up box of fabulous vintage accessories. Uncover outfit completing one-offs from intricately beaded capes to embroidered silk caps and get ready to perfect your very best nonchalant “oh this? It’s a family heirloom” shrug… (66 Johnston Road, Wanchai, +852 2525 2112)

Want to know where Kate kept her swishy hair essentials and George’s solid gold dummy while on the Royal Tour of Oz? Well the lovely ladies at Oroton can help you out there – one of our favourite Kate tour ensembles featured none other than a super-chic Oroton box clutch. Anyone with delusions of princess should scurry down to the Causeway Bay flagship store where a royal array of accessories awaits you at prices that are thankfully within reach of us commoners. We’re particularly loving the very on-trend bucket bags and the 70s-tastic lame evening clutches. And it’s not just the future Queen of England with an Oroton obsession, a host of Hollywood royalty is onto the secret too – recently both J-Lo and Jessica Alba have been spotted sauntering down the red carpet with an Oroton tucked under their arm. Well if it’s good enough for Kate, Jen and Jess… (Shop 9, G/F, Empire Court, 2-4 Hysan Avenue, Causeway Bay, +852 2866 6580)

The 9th Muse
If bling’s your thing, you’ll probably already know and love jewellery boutique, The 9thMuse. But did you know that the shop’s had a little work done?! Now the bandages are off, it’s looking brighter, sparklier and more glam than ever, with monochrome chequered floors, Art Deco chandeliers and a sleeker, more modern layout – all the better for lingering over the lovingly curated selection of treasures on sale. Credit cards at the ready, prepare to be dazzled by beautiful pieces from international brands you know and love (think: House of Harlow, Lulu Frost and CC Skye) twinkling beside lines by local designers and plenty more under the radar collections. In the market for something besides baubles? You’re in luck, T9M is also home to an Aladdin’s Cave of scarves, sunglasses, homewear and  beauty bits and bobs. Your only problem now? Resisting the urge to wear all your new acquisitions at once. (Unit 1204, 1 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, +852 2537 7598)

Like your prep with some punch? Then you’ll be thrilled to hear that J Crew, has just thrown open the doors of its first standalone stores in the city (a womenswear store in ifc Mall and a menswear store tucked away down On Lan Street). Better yet, alongside the rails of cashmere, statement skirts and patterned pants are some seriously standout accessories. Colour-pop clutches and chunky, bejewelled necklaces will lift simple denim and a white shirt to stellar style heights, while the shoe salon provides your stiletto fix. After the brilliant Sophia Webster x J.Crew collection (sadly already snapped up in its entirety by Hong Kong’s shoeaholic hoardes), we can’t wait to see what accessories genius our favourite New York export has lined-up next. (Shop 1026, ifc Mall, +852 2628 5611 – women’s, 9 On Lan Street, Central +852 2706 9122 – men’s)

If you generally spend your holidays lying supine, juggling sunbaking with cocktail sipping, magazine flipping and snoozing, you’re probably too ‘busy’ to hit the markets and seek out exotic treasures. Luckily, while you were tanning, Callixto’s Sasha Denning has been skipping around the globe, bartering on your behalf. Shimmy down to her brand new flamingo-pink boutique to browse exotic trinkets sourced from Paraguay to Greece and India to Peru. Stepping into the store is like taking a mini vacation – who could say no to sating your wanderlust while also stocking up on Aztec gold, Balinese bags and Turkish delights? All the spoils of a round the world shopping trip minus the airfare and jet lag. (11 Mee Lun Street, Central, +852 6316 9551)

When we say ‘Uggs’, we’re guessing cute summer sandals don’t spring to mind… In fact, if we suggested wearing Uggs to the beach, we’ll bet you’d get an image of Pamela Anderson in jean cut-offs and sheepskin boots circa 1990… But don’t confine Uggs to the comfy, snuggly category just yet. From sailor-striped smoking slippers to ribbon-tied wedges, the SS14 collection is very un-boot shaped and well and truly runway worthy. We’re particularly loving the metallic gladiator sandals and the wear-with-everything Luciana wedges in black. In fact we’d say you’re guaranteed to be a fox in sheep’s(skin) clothing… (2 Yiu Wa Street, Causeway Bay, +852 2893 1338)

Jack Wills
Despite British summers being renowned for being less than warm and sunny, no matter what the weather, Brit brand Jack Wills, manages to put the rays into accesso-rays this summer. Hop down to your nearest store for fill-your-summer-hols’-suitcase essentials including panama hats, beach wraps and sandals each more scrumptious than a jug of Pimms & lemonade. (77 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, +852 3105 1798)

Helen Kaminski
Now it’s time to top things off… Turning heads from South Bay to St. Tropez Australian designer Helen Kaminski’s newly launched Kaleidoscope collection of handcrafted hats for both men and women features fedoras, caps, visors and more in bold bright colours, with many boasting UPF 50+ sun protection to shield you from HK’s harsh rays. Hit Kapok or Hatwoman and you’ll soon be peeking out from under your very own stylish brim.
