Winter Time and the Livin’ is Easy

Let’s face it, while we may moan about the current drop in temperature and refuse to leave the house unless we’re dressed for Alpine ski slopes, winter in HK ain’t all that bad. In fact, our freezing friends across the globe may say we’ve got it pretty damn good! But for those of you who are missing those sultry summer nights, let’s bring a little bit of warmth and summertime back into our days…

What’s new pussycat? There’s nothing like starting a (make-believe) summer’s day with a good sing-along in the shower.  Yes, we like to let the neighbours know we have risen and are ready to seize the day! Start practicing some oldie classics (and shower favourites) and get ready for Flat on Your Bacharach ( As a part of the City Festival 2008, this Australian trio has come to Hong Kong to perform their dynamic cabaret-inspired vocal and piano show paying tribute to all-time song legend, Burt Bacharach (Thu-Sun, Jan 10-13, 9:30pm. Fringe Theatre, 2 Lower Albert Road, Central).

Put on your Wimbledon best and sling a shot or two at the Hong Kong Tennis Association ( After paying a $250 annual membership fee, you will receive discounts on tennis lessons, gym memberships, health shops, hotels and restaurants.  Don’t forget to follow your class with a generous helping of strawberries and cream and wash it down with a glass of refreshing Pimms and lemonade.  Ahh, the taste of summer!

Get ready to heat up your evenings and swing back into shape with Ceroc (, the global dance phenomenon that has just triple-stepped into HK.  Derived from the French phrase C’est Rock, Ceroc organizes a series of fun, energetic Modern Jive classes, which incorporate techniques from both Salsa and Jive.  Two left feet? You’ve come to the right place!  Ceroc promises it will only take one night with their skilled and dashing teachers to become the dancing queen you’ve always dreamed of.

We all know that when it’s balmy outside and everyone is wearing their skimpiest attire, romances tend to blossom quicker than daisies. Cold, bleary winter weather does not make for the most smoldering evenings, but that’s not to say there isn’t fun to be had! For anyone wanting to give the unknown and spontaneous a try, Speed Dating ( or is making its mark on the city by hosting events from intimate dinners to crazy junk parties where its all about getting up close and personal in a matter of minutes.

Now if that’s not enough to warm up your winter nights, we suggest you get a hot water bottle!
