Ticket to Ride

Fabulous holidays, poolside soirees, rendezvous with old friends (or lovers!). The past few months have definitely been more focused on fun and frolics than education and enlightenment. We’re sad to say that the closest we’ve come to a concert all summer was hearing Paul McCartney say “excuse me” outside a Hamptons restaurant bathroom. Hey, we’re not knocking it. . . but as the beach parties start winding down, it’s great to see that the city’s arts scene is picking up with a fantastic line-up of concerts, plays and productions. Here are the town’s hottest tickets. . .

August 15 – Summer Disco Party featuring Lady Gaga
Where better to put on your Poker Face than in Macau? If you can’t make it to Macau, you can still Go Gaga at a special event hosted by Channel [V] at FINDS tonight from 10pm onwards, where there will be a Lady Gaga lookalike contest judged by the diva herself, plus lots of complimentary cocktails and fabulous prizes. August 16 – Linkin Park
Give me reason. . . why you wouldn’t stay in Macau until Sunday to see Linkin Park perform their chart-topping rock favourites? Having sold over 50 million albums and been named by MTV as the third best band of the new millennium, behind Oasis and Coldplay, this is one concert that is not to be missed. Come sing along to award winning hits like “Numb”, “Crawling” and “Breaking the Habit”. Sure, you may be a little worse for wear at work on Monday, but in the end it doesn’t even matter. . . (Sunday, August 16, 7:30pm, CotaiArena,

August 21 – 23 – The Hong Kong Ballet presents Cinderella
Lovers of the famous fairy tale should prepare to fall head over heels for The Hong Kong Ballet’s traditional version of Cinderella by American choreographer David Allan. With magnificent sets and costumes designed by Peter Cazalet and magical steps set to the melodious music of Sergei Prokofiev, this classic story promises to come to life like never before. From a beautifulpas de deux, which captures the romance of Cinderella and the Prince, to the hilarious antics of the ugly stepsisters and the glittering elegance of the ball, not a moment or a glass-slippered step will be missed! (August 21-23, Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre,

September 8-20 – The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
Don’t miss your chance to see London’s longest running comedy as it premieres live in Hong Kong this September. Proclaimed “wildly funny” by the LA Times, “Stupendous, anchorless joy!” by The Times, London and so hilarious it was given a laughter health warning by the New York Times, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) condenses all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays into 97 minutes of roaring Shakespearean comedy that has nothing to do with Apollonian and Dionysian values! (September 8-20, HKAPA Drama Theatre,

September 26 – An Evening With Il Divo
Modern pop divas have nothing on operatic quartet sensation, Il Divo. Comprised of four of the greatest voices in the world today Carlos Marín, Urs Bühler, David Miller, and Sébastien Izambard, who were brought together by none other than the infamous Simon Cowell, this group has created an entirely new musical genre by blending operatic technique with romantic and popular songs. For their latest tour, the quartet has stepped things up a notch by working with Giorgio Armani on wardrobe and celeb-favourite Creative Director William Baker on styling, plus commissioned an enormous stage and digital light show, ensuring that the sensations the audience can enjoy are not only musical but visual as well (as if they weren’t cute enough already!). (Saturday, September 26, 8pm, AsiaWorld-Arena,

Hope you enjoyed the ride!
