Exclusively for Dim Sum & Then Some, Divia Harilela, Hong Kong’s premier international fashion editor, Senior Fashion Correspondent for SCMP and creator of leading luxury and fashion blog The D’Vine (http://www.the-dvine.com), brings you an up to the minute update of her personal favourite hot off the runway styles, trends, lusts and loves, plus a few “must have” pieces for your wardrobe now…
I’ve always been a fan of accessories because they are the best (and easiest) way to update your wardrobe. So instead of investing in trends like Prada’s printed suit or a pair of leather trousers – - who can pull them off anyway? – stock up on these five must-have accessories that will last you through the season.
A Leather Scarf
As soon as Phoebe Philo sent out a series of leather scarves with colourful contrast trims at Celine, editors were hooked. Cashmere may be luxurious but leather adds a cool, rock ‘n’ roll vibe to this winter essential. The trick is to choose a style made from supple leather so that it drapes well. Black is a safe bet, but don’t be afraid to experiment with colours like oxblood red. Keep details to a minimum – studs will take it from chic to cheap.

Steal: Etsy Brown Leather Scarf
Women can’t stop stealing from their boyfriend’s closets and our latest obsession is velvet slippers. Once reserved for gentleman only, this is the must-have shoe style for the winter. As such there is so much to choose from ranging from Charlotte Olympia’s cute kitty version to classic loafers with tassels. I’m all about classic velvet styles finished with a monogram. Pair them with a tailored blazer and statement trousers and you are good to go.
Splurge: Stubbs and Wooton Velvet Slip-ons at Lane Crawford

An Embellished Collar
It was only a matter of time before we started copying Karl Lagerfeld! Shirt and dress collars are given the luxe treatment with all sorts of decoration from beading to sequins. If you don’t want to commit, invest in a detachable collar that you can mix and match with your current wardrobe. While Peter Pan styles seem to be the rage, I prefer a simple white collar with metal tips for a futuristic look.
Splurge: Marni Collar

A Doctors Bag
Am I the only one who remembers Prada’s doctor’s bags all those years ago? If you had one, I hope you kept it because they made a comeback at Mrs Prada’s autumn show, this time with appliques and other embellishments. Every other brand has followed from Lanvin to Dolce, with styles ranging from vintage to modern. While leather is best, don’t be afraid to play with textures such as faux croc or suede. Go wild with a bright colour or embroideries to add a pop to your winter outfit.
Splurge: Lanvin Dr Lanvin Bag
Steal: Madewell Heritage Bag
Embellishments were a huge trend on the catwalks, so what better way to spice up your dress than with some serious bling? At Lanvin, Alber Elbaz sent out Art Deco style statement necklaces with colourful gems. Elsewhere, 1920s chandelier earrings and gobstopper sized cocktail rings made a comeback. The only requirement is that it looks like you stole it from your grandmother’s jewellery box.
Splurge: Shourouk Crystal Drop Earrings
Steal: Anna Dello Russo for H&M (Launching Oct 4)
