Shanghai Nights

1930′s Shanghai – Enter into a night in the life of Madame Ning, Shanghai’s most celebrated socialite, and get ready for a glimpse of society decadence, exotic far flung travels and best of all, the glamour of a bygone era. Hong Kong’s present day society-set was decked out in Shanghai chic last Wednesday to celebrate the arrival of Hong Kong’s most glamorous and seductive new lounge, Salon de Ning at The Peninsula Hong Kong, which officially opens December 6th.

A Grand Entrance
Pass under the granite archway, slip through the black lacquered doors and behold the stunning art deco meets grand Shanghai interior of Salon de Ning. . . Melodic sounds cascaded through the air from the stage where resident band “Soulmates” treated the audience to sensational renditions of classic favourites and the DJ spun eclectic, modern tunes. Free flowing Salon de Ning Rose Champagne as well as the very popular “Ning Sling” made for no shortage of guests shimmying their sophisticated moves on the dance floor.

A World Apart
Madame Ning was renowned for her passion for travel and Salon de Ning’s destination rooms provided inspiration for far-flung escapades and exotic tales. Guests gathered around the fireplace and ate desserts in the chalet-style “Ski Room.” While in the “L’Afrique Room” revelers lounged in a tented Moroccan alcove reminiscent of Marrakech.

A Step Ahead
As if there weren’t enough twists and turns happening on the dance floor, Salon de Ning has a whole room dedicated to Madame Ning’s love for dance. Footage of her sensuous bailar moves came alive from exquisitely framed picture screens on the walls captivating guests in a show of its own. While the most private room of all, the Boudoir, with its cosy pillows, gorgeous jewellery and charming antiques was the perfect place for the evening’s final nightcap.

From the sumptuous treats, to the glittering décor to the dazzling crowd, this was a party even Madame Ning would have cleared her diary for!
