Romantic Comedy

Your love life has proven to be more dramatic than any romantic comedy out there. From Just Like Heaven to Indecent Proposals to being Addicted to Love, your vie de l’amour has seen all the scenes of a box office hit. This Valentine’s Day, whether you’re with the charmer, chaser or passionate dream-maker, now’s your chance to steal the show and send the ratings off the charts…

French Kiss
You have a soft spot for the accent and even though your date may not be as amusing as Gerard Depardieu, with the right ambience and sufficient amounts of wine, you may start to believe you’re actually on a rendezvous in Paris. And there’s no better place than Chez Patrick Sun Street to play out your illicit French fantasies.  Steal away in a cosy corner of this chic black and white dining room and feast upon an 8-course dinner of innovative Parisian cuisine including such delicacies as pan seared scallops with gingerbread butter, eggplant cappuccino, lobster cooked two ways, smoked angus beef fillet and cheeses with black truffles.  As for dessert…pucker up! (2527 1408, 8-9 Sun Street, Wan Chai, HK$1280pp)

What Women Want
While we may not have the answer to the age-old question, we do have a few ideas on the subject.  And we must say a man cooking us a to-die-for dinner is high on the list!  Lucky for all you budding chefs out there, Chef Claudio at The Mistral has come to the rescue with his Valentine’s Day Culinary Kit.  On Saturday, February 2, participate in an exclusive two-hour cooking class where you will learn how to cook a 4-course romantic Italian feast, from starter to dessert.  Then on Valentine’s Day, the Chef will prepare a basket filled with all the necessary ingredients for you to heat things up in the kitchen and beyond, including a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champagne.  It won’t be long before she’s calling you mi amore! (2731 2870, 70 Mody Road, TST, HK$1888 total)

As Good As It Gets
Perfect ambience, delectable food and oozing with charm, all at a surprisingly reasonable price (and you don’t even have to put up with a kooky Jack Nicholson!).  Le Marron really is As Good As It Gets. Their Valentine’s Day 5-course degustation menu is a delightful culinary feast including Alaskan king crab leg with black bean garlic butter, fresh spring pea soup with prosciutto, and grilled Angus rib finger mille-feuille style with periguex sauce. It promises to be a magical evening, even if you are obsessive-compulsive! (2881 6662, 12/F Ying Kong Mansion, 2-6 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay, HK$520pp)

Never Been Kissed
Think you’ve met your true love, but still working up to that first lip-locking encounter? Goccia’s Michelin star chef Francesco Brocca, has developed a divine Valentine’s Day menu guaranteed to get you and your date in the mood for a little lovin’. Start with a “Lover’s Cake” of avocado and crab, followed by “Flirtatious Soup” made with chickpeas, sea bass and oysters.  Next up is “Aphrodisiac Risotto” with fresh strawberries and Franciacorta Italian Champagne and “Cupid’s Arrow,” a fillet of veal with sautéed mushrooms and potatoes.   End on a high note with a “Lovers Melody” of chocolate mousse with a light cream, guaranteed to help you seal the deal! (2167 8181, 71 Wyndham Street, Central, HK$650pp)

Love Actually
Holiday fling? Christmas party hook-up? Lustful infatuation? No, this is love, actually. Now that you’re head-over-heels, it’s all about sharing.  And lucky for you, MEGU feels the same way. They have created two uniquely tailored 6-course menus especially for Valentine’s Day, one featuring MEGU’s signature Australian Wagyu sirloin steak ‘Kagerou Yaki,’ served on a Hennessey flambee stone grill and blue-fin tuna carpaccio with truffle dressing. The other will feature hirame carpaccio with orange sauce and a grilled Boston lobster. The grand finale will come in the form of the chef’s 10-piece dessert tasting platter. And best of all, the focus is on intimate dining (note: feeding each other is encouraged!).  (3743 1421, Elements, Kowloon Station, HK$2008 per couple)

Can’t Buy Me Love
But…if you could…the Island Shangri-La would be the place to try!  Their opulent Valentine’s Day package begins with a privately catered 7-course dinner by Petrus, including caviar, black truffle, langoustine en bellevue, Brittany turbot and Bresse capon paired with notable French Champagne and wines, namely Krug Clos du Mesnil 1995, Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot 2004, Chateau Latour 1990 and Chateau D’Yquem 1996. Only the best will do for the aspiring Trumps! After dinner, retire to the luxurious 55th-floor Presidential Suite for the evening, and receive a limited edition Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra mother-of-pearl clover pendant set with round diamond in yellow gold for her and matching Alhambra mother-of-pearl cufflinks in yellow gold for him, plus 999 red roses and a Champagne breakfast the following day.  Also included are round-trip transfers in a Rolls-Royce Phantom and welcome canapés with a bottle of Dom Pérignon Rosé 1996. It promises to be one lavish night you (and your wallet!) will never forget! (2820 8590, Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, HK$138,888 per couple)

We’re aiming for a show-stopping performance this Valentine’s Day, the more saucy the storyline the better…extra points for recreating the scene from When Harry Met Sally!
