On Your Market, Get Set, Go!

The race to Christmas is officially underway. You’ve run through countless draft letters to Santa, jumped over hurdles in line at the post office, hit the finish line of many a hot chocolate, and gone for the gold with your totally OTT x-mas tree. Now it’s time to kick back, relax and enjoy the crisp winter air, beautiful sunshine and festive spirit of the season… Island East Markets, everyone’s favourite Sunday organic outdoor marketplace, has put a festive spin on their December program, filled with delicious treats, eats, activities, live music and more.  Join us for a little Sunday stroll…

Start your day at the market’s artisanal food stalls, selling everything from cheeses and breads to pies and cakes to freshly brewed coffees, and of course bountiful fresh vegetables galore from HK’s local farmers. Must tries on the Island East food scene over the next few weeks are and Sour Times Dairy Yogurt, dishing out their handmade fresh creamy yogurt including flavours like Hibiscus & Vanilla and Warm Red Ginger, Levain Bakery’s fresh out of the oven Christmas stollen, panettone, banana chocolate croissants, French baguettes and more, and Grassroots Pantry’s flavour-packed vegetarian delights, all on Dec 15. Also on the foodie must list is KJ Lobster Rolls, serving up sublime jet fresh Lobster Rolls and Hawaiian Ahi Tuna Poke (returning January 2014).

Next it’s on to the activities… Stretch your way into Sunday with top fitness and yoga brand Lululemon’s yoga workshops at 11am on both Dec 8 and 15, taste a new world of possibilities at Ayurvedic celebrity chef Lakshmi Harilela’s cooking demos in support of Feeding Hong Kong at 1pm on Dec 8, before heading over to start your caroling with a children’s performance by Music Kreation Kids. On Dec 15 at 12noon, get ready to be mystified by THE GUARATTELLE OF PULCINELLA, a renowned puppet show from Italy, and on Dec 22 just in time for Christmas, learn how to make festive décor in an interactive workshop by artist Veron Sung.  At every market in December, take family photos at the holiday photo corner and shop for Christmas gifts aplenty, including many gorgeous eco-friendly options, foodie favourites and special pieces, from which the proceeds go to charitable causes.

Prefer to do your market hopping and shopping on Saturdays? On Saturday, December 14, from 12:30 – 6pm, Island East Markets is joining forces with Very Hong Kong to put on a street party extravaganza on Sun Street and Moon Street in Wanchai. This one-day-only afternoon street soiree will feature a pop-up of Island East’s artisanal and sustainable food, drink and lifestyle products including favourites Secret IngredientThe Genie ConceptMonsieur Chatte, and Spicebox Organics, and complimentary craft beer tastings throughout the day. Hitting the street from morning till night will be ongoing live entertainment including HK’s first ever street fashion catwalk show, interactive art and floral jamming, photo exhibitions, and live acoustic music performances from bands, to a cappella groups to Christmas carolers.
