March Madness

Just a few short hours until the throngs of revelers descend upon Causeway Bay and the weekend of madness begins.  From the manic beer tents to the buttoned up boxes, to wondering if your colleagues are in fancy dress or is this how they dress outside of the office, to the chanting and cheering and doing “the wave,” to the “what goes on in the South Stand stays in the South Stand” mantra, the Rugby Sevens have arrived and we hope you’ve rested up. It’s going to be an action-packed weekend!  Here are some top picks for dining spots that will provide the perfect pick-me-ups and some much needed fuel to keep you going to the touch line:

March MadnessBreakfast
Posto Pubblico
Rise and shine! From 7:30am onwards on both Saturday and Sunday, SoHo’s comfort food institution will be serving hearty breakfasts to help pad the playing field for the day’s antics.  From a breakfast sandwich filled with scrambled eggs, ham and asiago cheese to a 6 oz grain fed sirloin steak and eggs, this is a necessary stop before hitting the stands – costumes welcome!  (28 Elgin Street, Central, 2577 7160)

Brunch
Bouchon Bistro Francais
If you roll out of bed a teensy bit late and realize you may have missed a match or three, SoHo’s recently opened Bouchon Bistro Francais has just what you need to get your day back on track again. With an extensive brunch menu including egg dishes galore, croissants and pastries, and croque monsieur and madames, served both inside and on the lovely outdoor patio from 11am all the way through to 4pm, you’ll be rested, revved up and ready to hit the champagne tents in no time. (49 Elgin Street, Central, 2525 9300)

Lunch
Classified Happy Valley
You’ve been dancing since dawn and it’s time for a quick pick me up – in the form of some of the world’s best coffee and seriously delicious snacks.  The all new Classified in Happy Valley is just steps from the stadium and serves tasty treats, from fresh house baked pastries to toasted sandwiches, salads and pastas, to savoury meats and cheeses, along with a great selection of coffees, teas and wines, from early morning ‘til late night. Score! (13 Yuk Sau Street, Happy Valley, 2891 3454)

Dinner
Grand Hyatt Steakhouse
Have a special Sevens guest in town? Scrub off your facepaint, shed your feather boa and head on over to the brand new Grand Hyatt Steakhouse, which opened its grand doors this week. This classic steakhouse will feature prime cuts of beef, an impressive Seafood and Oyster Bar, an elaborate Salad Bar, and the desserts the Hyatt has become famous for.  After dinner, sneak into the private wine or cigar tasting rooms for a little tipple before heading back out into the crowds. (2/F, Grand Hyatt, 1 Harbour Road 2584 7722)

Late Night Bites
Woolloomoolo Wan Chai
If you need a stretch after a day of tackles and scrums, head to Wolloomoolo and enjoy the jaw-dropping scene scape of Happy Valley, Wanchai and Victoria Harbour from its panoramic terrace.  Indulge in tantalizing signature treats such as steak tartare, freshly shucked oysters with leek & champagne sabayon and a range of mouth-watering steaks and accompaniments.   Your tummies will be perfectly lined for kicking off the post-7s revelry or kicking back and enjoying another delectable bottle of wine.  (31/F & Rooftop The Hennessy, 256 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, 2893 6960)
