It ain’t easy being cheesy!

There’s good cheesy and bad cheesy. Crimped hair tied back with a beaded velvet scrunchie, fluorescent coloured shell track suits, Brad Pitt’s face printed on your duvet cover: bad cheesy. Bacon wrapped buffalo mozzarella, Italian Burata with sun-ripened tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil, Philly cheese steak with caramelized peppers and onions, homemade eggplant parmesan: good cheesy. As much as you’d hate to admit it, everyone’s got a bit of bad cheesy in their past (we’ve got the photos to prove it!). However, these days, our fashion sense has had a makeover, and it’s the good cheesy we’ve become connoisseurs of. And where better to test out our expertise than two new heavenly, cheesy eateries that are oozing with flavourful dishes and leaving us ready to melt…

Duke’s Deli
From the creators of SoHo’s mouthwatering Duke’s Burger comes Duke’s Deli, bringing the essence of New York comfort food to the heart of Central. Want a bagel with your morning caw-fee? No problem! Breads, pastries and bagels are homemade daily along with cupcakes, muffins, brownies, pies and cakes. No longer do you have to go to the big apple for the famous, authentic pizza by the slice—order up a piece of your favourite pie at the counter and top it off with chili flakes and oregano. Cold-cut sandwiches will be made to order, so whether you want house-cured pastrami, smoked turkey or roast beef, they’ll be yours to sink your teeth into in just moments. Or, turn-up the heat and bring on the sizzle with an awe-inspiring Philly cheese steak, perfection in a bun. If you’re after some hearty homemade dishes, look no further. Duke’s Deli serves Italian classics including eggplant parmesan, chicken parmesan, lasagne, baked ziti and meatball parm hoagies, that are a much welcomed first in Hong Kong. If you’re on the run at lunchtime, just help yourself to the customary deli buffet featuring anything from caeser salads to potatoes au gratin. Aside from all of this, floor to ceiling shelves are stacked full of all-American favourites including Pepperidge Farm cookies, Arizona and Snapple iced teas and Kettle Chips, with Hostess cupcakes and Vitamin Water coming our way soon. Duke’s Deli officially opens today, so go with an empty stomach and a New York state of mind! (Two Chinachem Plaza, G/F, 135 Des Voeux Road, Central, 2544 7587)

Classified Mozzarella Bar
To reaffirm Wanchai’s status as the up-and-coming foodie hangout, the masterminds behind The Press Room, The Pawn and Classified The Cheese Room bring us Classified Mozzarella Bar. Dedicated to showcasing artisan mozzarella, this is the ideal spot to enjoy your favourite cheese in a variety of palate pleasing preparations. Choose from the renowned Burata, Buffalo Campana or Bocconcini mozzarella accompanied by sun-ripened tomatoes, rocket and extra virgin olive oil, or go for the warm melt-in-your-mouth option with bacon wrapped mozzarella over fig jam. Gourmet salads and tapas-style dishes are brought to new levels of mouthwatering satisfaction on your tastebuds. Spinach salad is served with creamy gorgonzola and Tuscan beans, artichokes are accompanied by French beans, radish and pesto, and lemon cous cous is mixed with olive oil, fresh mint and parsley. Pastas, paninis and soups change daily while delicious mains including Piri Piri chicken, Moroccan spiced lamb and grilled swordfish steak are staples on the menu. Stop by for a glass of wine and a tasting platter of Jamon Iberico from the charcuterie for a savoury treat. For those who can’t get enough of Classified’s cheeses, you can even have mozzarella ice cream for dessert! (31 Wing Fung Street, Wanchai, 2528 3454 – adjacent to Pacific Place 3)

These two fabulous sensations allow you to indulge in all the cheese you ever wanted. It ain’t easy being cheesy? Maybe it’s easier than we thought!
