Good Enough to Eat

Contrary to your good intentions. . . the blender you were given for Christmas has whipped up more strawberry margaritas than spirulina bean sprout smoothies, the new gym outfits you bought have now become your favourite pajamas, and after intensive research you’ve concluded that the best superfood for your lifestyle is dark chocolate (and even better for the soul!). So, it’s safe to say that your detox hasn’t exactly gone as planned. Rather than going military and forbidding all solids (very bad for the soul), why not ease into healthy living with these nature loving hearty eateries…

Dressed
Start with a hip and buzzing Central location, add a fresh and exciting dining concept and throw in a cool and trendsetting crowd. Toss, lightly shake to perfection and voila, you have Dressed, Hong Kong’s new and stylish salad restaurant. Create your own concoction with a selection of 5 types of greens, 40 vegetable toppings, 8 fruits and nuts, 7 fresh cheeses and 20 savoury dressings, or choose from the Chef Designed Salads, which include everything from a lighter Shrimp Scampi or Seared Tuna to a hearty Steakhouse or fried chicken Po’ Boy. No matter which salad you choose, accompany it with a cup of their wildly popular Pepperoni Pizza Soup, a must try. Looking to shake things up a little more? Another location is set to “dress up” Queen’s Road East in Wanchai in the next few weeks. (2016, Podium Level 2, One IFC, 1 Harbour View Street, Central, 2295 4848, http://www.dressedsalads.com.hk)

JW’s California
Californians are known for being fitness and health buffs and JW’s California restaurant is closely following suit. With their new Natural Kitchen concept, they have put the guests’ health and well being first, by sourcing only premium, natural and sustainable products. Chef de Cuisine Christopher Smith has meticulously crafted the new menu and a complementary wine list, and these dishes taste even better than they sound. Feast on starters like Lime Tempura Oysters, Heirloom Tomato Salad or Seared Goose Foie Gras before sinking your teeth into mains like USDA Prime Red Angus Beef, Cedar Plank Norwegian Salmon Chop or Braised Milk-Fed Dutch Veal Shank. Even better than the dessert of delectable Madagascar Chocolate Flan with caramel and hazelnut ice cream (and it’s pretty darn good!) will be the feeling of knowing you’ve been kind to the environment. (JW Marriott Hong Kong, Pacific Place, Admiralty, 2841 3889)

Eden
Step off Arbuthnot Road and into Central’s newest oasis. Eden rings true to its name with luscious green views and a serene, airy environment. Using only the best organic ingredients to create colourful hearty dishes, this restaurant takes organic eating to a whole new level. The lunchtime salad buffet is filled with delicious veggie delights such as pumpkin with lentils, roasted potatoes, carrot and beetroot salad, mixed mushrooms, penne pasta, and tomato soup (HK$98) The set lunch (2-courses/HK$120, 3-courses/HK$160) includes a choice of Homemade Soup of the Day, House Salad or Warm Goat Cheese Tart to start and sumptuous mains such as Grilled Salmon with Couscous and Wild Mushroom Risotto. If you still have room left for something sweet, desserts include Panna Cotta and a melt in your mouth Apple Tart, proving this is no longer a forbidden fruit! Add to all that a fab new chef just in from Singapore, who cooks with flowers and knows secret ingredients to expedite weight loss, and this Eden is certainly shaping up to be HK’s answer to the idyllic Garden. (16 Arbuthnot Road, Central, 2868 0625)
