Flippin’ Burgers

The latest Hong Kong obsession is burgers in every size and shape imaginable – classic, fusion, colossal. The indulgently revived combo of meat, buns and a smorgasbord of toppings, prove some splurges never go out of style.

Backbone: Inspired by the trailer scene in the US, Boomshack gives American and Mexican comfort foods a distinctly Asian spin for an offering that is uniquely Hong Kong.
Sink your teeth into: Feeling adventurous? The holy kimchi burger packs a punch with corned beef, house kimchi, cheddar and baconnaise.
Scene stealers: The obligatory veggies have been ramped up! Go for the beetroot fries with kewpie mayo and Mexican corn doused in chilli mayo, parmesan and cilantro.

Backbone: Causing uproar with explicit marketing and free burgers that had people lining up around the block, their motto is all about dirty decadence.
Sink your teeth into: Bigger is always better. The Double D burger comprises two grass-fed Australian beef patties, sharp aged cheddar, onion, lettuce, tomato, pickle and house sauce between a sesame bun. The big mac fish also impresses with a whole beer battered cod fillet smothered in coleslaw, and homemade tartar sauce.
Scene stealers: Go big or go home! Fully loaded fries are cut thick with the skin on, topped with three types of melted cheese, gravy, sour cream, onions, scallions, sliced jalapeno and bacon bits.

Backbone: Francophiles will be in heaven with the Parisian take on the burger, though the beef is Australian – not to mention pasture fed, hormone and antiobiotic-free! The raw milk cheeses are French as can be though.
Sink your teeth into: The mouthwatering Le Bartholomé, a beef burger featuring raclette cheese, bacon, caramelised onions and homemade cocktail sauce. C’est superb!
Scene stealers: The fries are amazing, especially if you like them less crisp than their American counterparts. Prepared in-house and sprinkled with a highly moreish seasoning, they’ll be promptly polished off.

Backbone: A nod to traditional late-19th Century diners, this fun train carriage-themed eatery is the next best thing to a trip to US of A! Comfort food as its most playful.
Sink your teeth into: The house special Circus Burger won us over, a 5oz beef patty with crispy bacon, savoury onions, American cheddar, lettuce, tomato and Circus sauce.
Scene stealers: Milkshakes are a must! Make your own candy shake with their chocolate bar selection – Oreo and Reese’s peanut butter cups are a match made in heaven. For a grown-up version, the Drunken Monkey combines vanilla ice-cream, banana bourbon and maple syrup.

Sink your teeth into: Check out the secret menu which changes daily. We love the Wu Tang Style with a patty fried in sriracha and topped with cheese, kimchi, kewpie mayo and tempura sweet potato.
Scene stealers: Burgers are the star of the show here. Look out for innovative creations and guest collaborations, such as the latest one with Chef Yong-Soo Do of U-Hang with a Korean fried chicken burger available until May 25.
