Best of 2010

Hey, Soul Sister, In a year filled with Mad Men and Real Housewives, California Gurlz and Jersey Shore boys, Top Chefs and Toy Stories, Wall Street comebacks and Twilight Sagas, Teenage Dreams and lots of Glee, we’ve pumped out Stereo Love, and lit up the night like it was Dynamite. But, before we launch full force into a whole new year of Fireworks, Raise Your Glass to the best of 2010…

Best of 2010Eat & Drink
With everything from gourmet private kitchens to character filled cocktail bars to sustainable local farms to charming coffee shops hitting the city’s dining and drinking scene this year, it was hard to decide which spot to hit first.  An onslaught of home-style Italian joints tempted us into la dolce vita last winter, while the stunningly outfitted Alfie’s by KEE and deliciously decadent 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana took dining in Central to a whole new level of luxe.   LKF building on Wyndham quickly turned into a one-stop hotspot with Tazmania Ballroom heating up the nightlife scene all last winter, Opus Grill raising the steaks in the spring, Lily & Bloom turning heads from summer into fall, and Gold opening its glittering doors just in time for the holidays.  From the re-styled Republik to the newly launched Hyde, to the subterranean Boudoir, clubs and bars took a turn from splashy sparkle to subdued hues and inviting alcoves.  Private Kitchens, Commune Lab and Ta Pantry gave the term “chef’s table” new meaning while Miele’s Keeping Your Cool Event brought chilled out summer partying right into the kitchen.  New local farm to table delivery concept Homegrown Foods promised to keep us healthy and energized while reducing our carbon footprints, while Holly Brown coffee and a whole new slew of Classifieds kept us buzzing all the way through to 2011.

Fashion
What recession?  In 2010, shopping was back in a big way with luxe leather, chic crèmes, and fabulous feathers and furs making waves and stealing scenes all around town.  Heels hit a high note with the premiere of Sex and the City 2, and whether we wore our Choos, Loubs or Sandersons, we were all in an Empire State of Mind. Karen Millen kept us party pretty all year with some of the UK’s most dazzling designs while American Apparel set new standards for cool casual last spring at Lane Crawford with its iconic stateside style.  Calvin Klein left little to the imagination with the launch of its barely there Envy line while Hermès showed us a whole new range of ways to glamorously cover up with the launch of its playful J’aime Mon Carré site and the world’s first ever Silky Net Café.

Relax & Travel
Holiday time was taken to a new level of far-flung chic this past year with gorgeous new hot spots opening on every continent and welcoming our every wish. From Barcelona to Berlin to Singapore, we enjoyed a summer of LUXE with the latest hot of the press travel tips from our favourite City Guides.  We met, played and loved in Italy, India and Bali all while looking fabulously buffed and polished thanks to visits to eco-fabulous Emmanuel f. and relaxation and beautification wonderland MiraSpa, not to mention a little pre-holiday prep at waxing hotspot Strip.

Play
Oh, and didn’t we have fun! We kick started a year of decadent celebrations with sWingles at the W Hong Kong.  Boas, cuba libras and sizzling dance moves came out for our Old Havana Anniversary Party at KEE, love was in the air at the Kou Destiny Launch Party and a night of Virtual Insanity ensued when Jamiroquai’s drummer Derrick McKenzie flew over to play at the Launch of the Langham Place’s Backyard. Guests were pampered and preened to perfection at the uber-stylish MiraSpa Opening Party and savoured some of the best steaks and wine in town at Opus Grill’s Launch.  Girls and boys got ready to be whisked off to a night out in New York City at the opening night party of Sex and the City 2. Temperatures were rising and passions flaring at the World Cup over the summer and things continued to sizzle at sWingles Santiago Style last fall. Readers put their best foot forward at Rupert Sanderson’s Autumn/Winter Collection Launch Event and took their stilettos for a whimsical adventure along the harbour with Christian Louboutin before taking a walk on the wild side at Karen Millen’s Aumtum/ Winter Cocktail Party . It was a night of glamour and ghouls at our Halloween Masquerade Party as the W Hong Kong was transformed into a grand haunted mansion. Fashionistas got ready to style and be styled in one whimsical evening at the Hermès Silky Net Café Launch Cocktail. They shopped the top local designers at our festive Holiday Bazaar with KEE Club and rocked around the Christmas tree with Santa’s little helpers at the Santa Baby Christmas Party at brand new art and events venue The Space. To sign off the year we brought the most happening party this side of Sao Paolo to Hullett House at our Samba Like it Hot  New Year’s Eve party where we welcomed in 2011 truly epic style.

Thank you for sharing in the most glamorous days and memorable nights of the past year with us.  We look forward to even more fabulous and fun adventures with you in 2011!
