We’re one week into the new year and theoretically one week into detox. But you know we’re partial to breaking the odd rule. And if your lemongrass tea has already been replaced with a lemongrass martini, don’t be too hard on yourself, they both contain the core herbal ingredient! In no time at all the flurry of social moving and shaking will be in full swing once again. But before then, let’s take a moment to reminisce about the fun and fabulous times we had in 2009. . .
Arts & Entertainment
We were entertained and cultured to our heart’s content last year. WeRolled With It with Oasis, John Legendserenaded us Good Morning, Mika had us hailing Grace Kelly, and Duffy had us all begging, not for Mercy but for more. We were completely Starstruckwith Lady Gaga and her wacky-fabulous wardrobe until Journeyclaimed we could have it Anyway You Want It. After all these fantastic concerts we were inspired to get into a little choreography of our own and picked up some new hip hop and acrobatic moves (always useful to have in a pinch) at classes around town. After standing on pointe. we sharpened our literary knowledge at the Literary Festival and admired and debated the latest Chinese contemporary at ARTHK09.
Fashion
Our credit cards got a work out atMasterCard Luxury Week as we donned our latest wardrobe additions and couldn’t resist purchases from the stunning new collections at each show. We oohed and ahhed over La Perla’s latest sizzling pieces all throughout swimsuit season, and had the chance to combine two of our favourite things, afternoon tea and fashion, at the Mandarin Oriental Fashion T’s in both March andSeptember. We discovered a whole new shopping experience at Love Itand poured over the latest online fashion updates from the recently revamped Lane Crawford website.
Travel
This spring our travels took us to remote destinations from the bygone riviera of Cambodia to the far-flung isles of Malaysia. In summer, we spent nights cosying up under 500 thread count sheets in some of the world’s most stunning hotel rooms and days lounging on plush daybeds by glam waterfront pools, without ever leaving the comfort of our glorious city. From traditional Chinese junks to 150 ft mega yachts, we sailed the HK seas in style, until autumn came bringing the opening of 1881 Heritage and Hullett House, which quickly became our favourite palatial home away from home. Whether it was summer holidays in Asia or winters in London and New York, we knew we could count on LUXE City Guides to keep us up to date on the latest and greatest places to fill our tummies, shop our hearts out and lay our heads.
Eat & Drink
Once again, our bellies were never left hungry with more fantastic restaurants opening up and endless choices for our pampered palates. We felt like we were transported to the heart of Spain with every mouthful of the paella atUno Mas, the strawberry cheesecake ice-cream at Union J visited us in dreams for weeks, RED SoHo had us warming up in the gym before coming down to the restaurant to indulge andSML reminded us that good things come in all sizes. No longer was Ap Lei Chau just for furniture shopping, with the arrival of The 8th Estate Winery and El Greco café. And even home sweet home became a dining haven when the weather was particularly ghastly with delectable gourmet delivery.
Play
And of course, we always had time to play. . . we sipped and shopped at the Dim Sum & Then Some and Karen Millen Spring/Summer Collection Cocktail Party, we put on the ritz and partied like it was 1929 at our 2nd Anniversary Party at KEE. White hot and ready to rock were the revelers among us at the Dim Sum & Then Some White Party at M1NT. In between parties, we rested and revitalized and learned about supermodel secrets at KEE with Chiva Som’s afternoon tea. We turned on the primal heat for our Chic Safari Party at dragon-i with tribal beats and animalistic pleasures. We enjoyed massages at Sense of Touch at Repulse Bay’s opening soiree, make-up and make-overs at Club Monaco and NARS Wardrobing Cocktail Evening and came home glowing with goodie bags filled to the brim with beautifying sensations after the launch of DFS Galleria de Beaute. To close this spectacular year and toast the start of the holiday season, we celebrated our White Christmas Party at the resplendent and enchanting Hullett House where cocktails left us merrily on high.
We danced, we dazzled, we sang and spun, we ate, we drank, we sashayed and shopped, we twirled and traveled and rocked our way into the new year. Are you ready for more? We are. 2010 will be a wild and fabulous ride to remember and then some! And we can’t wait to share it with you!
