The elephants have arrived! And they are looking resplendent. As part of the world’s largest art exhibition of decorated elephant statues, the Elephant Parade was set up by father and son Marc and Mike Spits in 2006 in the quest to raise awareness in support for Asian elephants whose population has declined by a staggering 70% over the last 100 years. These playful creations have graced their majestic presence in 14 cities across the globe since then from London to Copenhagen to Singapore and are now parading triumphantly around Hong Kong.
See them across Swire properties including Pacific Place, Cityplaza and Citygate Outlets until September 9th 2014. Each elephant is a work of art and has been created by an array of local and internationally renowned artists including Diane von Furstneberg, Sir Richard Branson, Agnes B. and groundbreaking sculpture artist Danny Lee.
A selection of around 20 of the most popular statues will be available for a Sotheby’s auction at the Island Shangri-La on Thursday 11th September 2014. They are so adorable and eye catching and it is for such a great cause that it is well worth trying to make room in your apartment for one of these gorgeous ellies. Alternatively, you can enjoy plenty of photo ops around town before then.
