Grassroots Pantry, Sai Ying Pun’s organic hidden gemNestled in a cosy side street in the hip and happening neighbourhood du jour of Sai Ying Pun, lies a heavenly new boutique café Grassroots Pantry. As you approach this luscious and charming eatery with its beautifully delicate tea tables on the plant filled patio, you quickly realize that it is a serene and unique gem in Hong Kong. Offering a delightful menu of healthy, organic, homemade vegetarian food, Grassroots Pantry director and chef manager, Peggy Chan has set out to reach new heights of healthy living in HK alongside increasing interest in farm-to-table dining and the sustainable slow food movement. The menu consists of many healthy and enticing twists on international favourites including Thai Veggie Green Curry with Steamed Brown Rice, Spring Risotto with Brown Rice, Peas and Mint, Potato Tofu Croquettes, Japanese Cold Soba with Seared Marinated Tofu, and Hijiki Salad with Tahini Miso Dressing. There are also plenty of homemade pastries and desserts, fresh juices, organic wines and soothing teas to choose from. Their upbeat and knowledgeable staff live by the motto “Spreading Peas… One Meal at a Time” and we’re happy to see that a lot more peas and a little more peace have finally arrived in town.

No need to go to the other side…the grass, not to mention the veggies, are definitely always greener in Sai Ying Pun!
