Cocktails and Dreams

Sometimes a cocktail’s just a drink, and sometimes a cocktail can whisk you off to a far away land or bygone era with a single exhilarating sip…

The cocktails at the newly opened Il Milione Bar & Ristorante are of the latter variety. Created by “Bar Maestro” Giancarlo Mancino of Otto e Mezzo Bombana fame, one glance at the menu and you know you’re in for an intoxicating treat.

Taste your way back in time with a 1930s Manhattana cocktail Mancino created especially for Francis Ford Coppola on one of his visits to Hong Kong, feel the summer breezes on your Southern plantation with a Mint Julep Fernet Branca, or sail up to the Italian Riviera with a Mancino Negroni, a light and flavourful take on the original made from his own secret recipe.

Ready to mangia? Enjoy sumptuous aperitivo by the bar or take your seat in the cocoon-like, gilded dining room for a sublime meal of Umbrian fare. Led by chef Marco Gubbiotti, the official culinary representative of the region, both the dinner and lunch menus present a variety of rarely tasted treats with impeccable service and style.

Highlight appetizers were the melt-in-your-mouth Burrata, Sirloin Carpaccio and the artfully presented Smoked Salmon.

Pasta favourites include the region’s Passatelli Pasta made from bread crumbs and served with lobster, Maccheroni alla Chitarra spaghetti with cherry tomato confit and Sicilian red prawns, and Tagliolino with Summer Truffles.

Heavenly desserts like the Tiramisu, Fresh Fruit Tart, and Crispy Lentils Cornet with pistachio mousse and blackberry sorbet left only a few crumbs and wistful memories of the dreamy meal behind.
